Greene County Medical Center’s Advanced Women’s Care clinic, in partnership with Greene County EMS, recently held two infant CPR classes for 20 new parents and grandparents.
Instructors included Advanced Women’s Care staff member Kristie Hurley, who teaches childbirth classes for the medical center, and Marcia Morlan, Greene County EMS. The course focused on CPR rescue skills and relief of choking in infants and children.
In addition to the CPR training, participants received information on child passenger safety as well as other topics on infant and child safety. All participants received an American Heart Friend and Family certification card upon completion of the course.
Hurley noted, “The most important goal of the class was to have each participant come away from this training with the confidence and competence to actually perform these skills in an emergency situation.”
Daycare during the classes was provided by staff of the H.O.P.E.S. program, which is part of Greene County’s public health services and promotes “Healthy Opportunities for Parents to Experience Success.”
Both of the scheduled classes were full before there was an opportunity to open them up to public registration, which indicates this is an important topic in the community.
